Welcome to my listing for this Stunning large and tall Dome Top Trunk in original condition. Domed both length and width ways. This old trunk would have been used as a merchant navy travel trunk many years ago… Now though, it makes a useful and attractive piece of furniture providing valuable storage space. A great item for the bedroom at the foot of the bed or perhaps you would prefer to use it as a storage box for a hallway or living room…. The trunk has a very nicely domed top and peaking in the centre. I believe it is made from pine with studded beech bands. Five across the top, two each across the front and back an one at each side. The bands have metal end caps and the corners of the trunk are reinforced with metal strips. There are also metal bands up the front, across the lid and down the back of the trunk and is wrapped in a coated leather lining. It sits on two pine bearers and has a metal covering over the base. There is a functional leather handle on each side of the trunk. On the front it has two clip catches towards the outside with a pair of locking catches in between. The outside clips are iron and fully functional fastening well. The inside clips are brass, the design is to push in to shut and to unlock twist the star in the centre however the star does twist but does not unlock so best to leave unlocked. The lid has a metal stay to support it when open. The condition is original and Unrefurbished apart from the odd fixing to keep it functional. Many of these trunks have been stripped varnished or painted but I was drawn to the true original patina of this trunk. Character this is a fine an rare original example of such a trunk. Please see pics for detailing a a condition. There are scratches marks and wear to the surfaces and for some reason a mark of red paint but can be cleaned.
