Antique Vintage Extra Large Pine Ottoman Storage Blanket Box Chest. Solid, study, sound and heavyweight. Very well made, properly jointed and clearly the work of a craftsman. I suspect the wood is an interesting cedar rather than pine. Had been in the previous owners family since the 1950s but its history prior to that is unknown. Two runners with four metal stud feet. The usual minor cosmetic imperfections to the finish from usual use and age you would expect; which has left an authentic natrually aged and used patina. A few small spots of paint and light marks etc. We’ve left the wood exact as it came to us other than a standard good clean, however from how the beautiful the wood looks when slightly damp, a light oiling of the wood would nodoubt show the grainwork to its best potential. However as finish is very much a matter of taste and purpose, we have not made any other finishing option all the harder by oiling the wood. Has a big mortis lock with key, the key requires an additional turn to the left when unlocked before the top hinges open, so the key functions as a door knob, which is probably why it is so substantial. Very much a traditional blanket box, as in is the standard width of a traditional single bed designed to be placed at the end of a bed, however could be used for a variety of purposes, coffee table etc (in case it helps, which in many respect I really hope it doesn’t, during inspection we discovered it can happily fit a smallish adult human inside it).
